TV Stand Selection Guide

Technology is constantly advancing and new electronics are always being created, so it makes sense that your media center is going to be one of the most-used areas of your home. Because of this, it’s essential that you choose storage solutions to effectively organize all of your electronic devices and accessories. Gone are the days where a television was the only source of entertainment. Today we have TVs, DVD players, video game systems and much more, and it becomes a challenge to display and organize all the pieces effectively.

The key to keeping your media room in check is to purchase the right TV stand; however, it’s not as simple as walking into the store and picking out the model that looks the most attractive. There are tons of TV stands to choose from, so it’s important to keep the following factors in mind when searching for the perfect model for your home:

  • Identify your needs. What do you need your TV stand to do? Does it only need to support your television, or does it also need to hold your DVD player and assortment of game consoles? Do you want to be able to use it to display knickknacks, pictures and other decorative memorabilia? Answer these questions before you head to the store and you will better understand how to focus your search. If don’t need much extra storage, a simple TV stand will probably do the trick, but if you want to find a piece of furniture that will serve as a focal point of the room and an essential organizational piece, you may want to consider an entertainment armoire or complete entertainment center.

  • Measure your space. You may be drawn to the TV stands with all the bells and whistles, but if the room you’re working with isn’t big enough to hold it you’re going to have a problem. Measure the area you want to put the TV stand and purchase one within those dimensions. Also, be sure to measure your TV itself. If you’re particularly tight on space, a corner TV stand may be the way to go.

  • Consider your current décor. This is especially important if you want to purchase a corner entertainment center or similarly dominant piece of furniture. You don’t want the new piece to stick out and look like it doesn’t belong in the room. No matter what TV stand you buy, you want to make sure it fits in with your current décor and looks like it was there all along.

Before you head to the store to find the TV stand of your dreams, consider these three helpful tips. They should save you the time and hassle of purchasing a piece of furniture that doesn’t fit your home’s needs.
