2014 rewind year in review

2014 Rewind: Fan Faves of the Year

It’s that time of year when we take a look back and recap the best of the best from 2014.
Instead of going all Julie Andrews with our favorite things from the past year, we decided the best way to recap 2014 is to share some of what you picked as your favorites on social media throughout the year. Of course, we’ll throw in a few of our faves, as well. But trust us, we think you’ll like them, too.

Here’s what you (and we) loved in 2014.
YOU love: the Audrey upholstered settee prototype
We asked for your opinions on our upholstered accent seating prototypes and you obliged! The fan favorite (by a landslide vote) was the Audrey settee prototype. Stay tuned to see if this one makes it into the Barrister Lane Collection in 2015!

WE love: creative uses of furniture
The Double Take series helped us see some furniture pieces in a new light — like a dresser as a buffet in the kitchen or a bookcase as a bar stand. But two of our favorite creative uses of furniture in 2014 are this comfy casual workstation from The Nectar Collective, made using a coffee table and some oversized throw pillows, and Kleinworth and Co.’s second vanity using a slim writing table in the bathroom.

YOU love: Barrister Lane on Pinterest
Your favorite pin this year, among the thousand or so awe-inspiring, magazine-worthy pins on our Sauder Furniture Pinterest page, was none other than this fine Barrister Lane Entertainment Credenza. Nearly 500 of you can’t be wrong — she’s a beauty!

WE love: vibrant peacock and pretty pastels
We’re loving both ends of the spectrum, with bold, bright peacock colors, as well as softer pastels. We saw an influx of peacock hues at imm Cologne earlier this year and then got a glimpse of some pretty-in-pink palettes during Milan Design Week this summer. Whichever color trend you prefer, we were all about rockin’ new color palettes in 2014.

YOU love: Harbor View and Cannery Bridge Sauder Spotlights
We mean, c’mon. Who doesn’t love these collections? We know you go gaga for the weekly Sauder Spotlights on Facebook, and some of the hottest, most shared pieces of 2014 were the Harbor View Entertainment Credenza and Cannery Bridge Storage Wall. You’ve got good taste!

WE love: dream school workspaces
Octavia Moton shared her dream classroom workspace for the Dream Workspace contest this fall, and we can’t get enough of her inspiring classroom décor ideas. She planned a functional and fun space to educate her students, and used her contest winnings to bring her Dream Workspace to life.

YOU love: Garage Sale Challenges
We love garage sales, but you guys really loved the Garage Sale Challenge this summer. We paired up our designers and marketing team to create the best garage sale find for less than $50, and the competition was fierce. Shawn and Lacey went for the gold (leaf), Kayte and Keely went head-to-head with their spray paint creations, and Mark and Chad went from 0 to 60. Voting was so hotly contested, we’re not prepared to crown an official champion. We guess that means we’ll have a rematch next summer?!?

WE love: customization
One of our favorite design trends of the year was the rise in customizable furniture. We saw it at High Point Market in spring, and it remained a common trend at High Point Market this fall. The ability to customize furniture and give it a personal touch with colors, patterns, fabrics and hardware is a trend we can’t wait to see continue into 2015.

YOU love: Furniture Frenzy prototype voting
How could we forget one of the most popular things to happen on the Sauder Facebook page all year — Furniture Frenzy! Ya’ll casted more than 6,000 votes to name the Harbor View Buffet the champ. Whether it was the versatile crisscross storage or the handy fabric bins that got your vote, one thing’s for sure: You have great taste.

Thanks for all the love this year! Stay tuned for even more design inspiration and random goodness to come in 2015!
